Fenrir’s Embark DNA test confirms the following genetic composition:
62.5% Siberian Husky
18.3% German Shepherd Dog
11.1% Gray Wolf
8.1% Norwegian Elkhound
Fenrir’s genetic composition combines the Nordic Wolfdog ancestry of his mother, Shanti (Nordic Wolfdog Nagandal), with the predominantly Arctic sled dog lines of his father, Yogibär of Goldenstone.
His particularly high Siberian Husky percentage suggests a substantial genetic contribution from his paternal lineage.
Genetically confirmed Gray Wolf ancestry: 11.1%
Fenrir’s Gray Wolf ancestry can be traced to his mother Shanti, whose Embark results confirm 25.4% Gray Wolf ancestry.
No additional Gray Wolf ancestry has been genetically confirmed through his paternal lineage.
Fenrir’s own DNA results therefore confirm his historical wolf ancestry and provide direct genetic insight into his origins, independently of previous pedigree-based estimates.
Fenrirs Embark-DNA-Test bestätigt folgende genetische Zusammensetzung:
62,5 % Siberian Husky
18,3 % Deutscher Schäferhund
11,1 % Grauwolf
8,1 % Norwegischer Elchhund

① APRT (2,8-DHA Urolithiasis):
Fenrir carries one copy of this genetic variant. As the condition is inherited in a recessive manner, he is not expected to develop the disease as a result of this variant alone.
② ATP7A (Copper Toxicosis, Attenuating Variant):
Fenrir carries one copy of a potentially protective ATP7A variant that may help reduce copper accumulation in dogs carrying certain ATP7B risk variants. This genetic variant is not disease-causing and may have a beneficial effect on copper metabolism.
③ GPT (ALT Activity):
Fenrir carries one copy of a genetic variant associated with naturally lower ALT enzyme activity. This is not a disease, but it may affect the interpretation of liver enzyme levels in veterinary blood tests.

Maternal Haplotype: D1/3/8
Maternal Haplogroup: D
🇬🇧 The maternal haplotype D1/3/8 belongs to Haplogroup D, a rare maternal lineage found in Scandinavian dog breeds and Afghan Hounds. Its ancient origins may be linked to historical interbreeding between domestic dogs and other canids, possibly wolves.
Paternal Haplotype: Hc.2
Paternal Haplogroup: A2b
🇬🇧 The paternal haplotype Hc.2 belongs to Haplogroup A2b and occurs in various dog breeds worldwide, as well as in free-ranging dogs (Village Dogs). It is not restricted to any particular breed or geographical origin.

🇩🇪 Was bedeuten diese COI-Werte?
DLA-DRB1: High Diversity ✅
DLA-DQA1 & DQB1: High Diversity ✅
What Do These Results Mean?
Fenrir shows high genetic diversity in both tested regions of his immune-related genes. This is a particularly encouraging result regarding his genetic diversity.
The DLA genes (Dog Leukocyte Antigen) belong to the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and play a central role in a dog’s immune system.
They help the body recognize pathogens such as viruses and bacteria and initiate an appropriate immune response.
High Diversity means that Amarok has inherited different genetic variants (alleles) from his parents in these gene regions. This gives him a diverse genetic makeup in important areas of his immune system.
What Are the Benefits of High Genetic Diversity?
1. 🛡️ Diverse Immune Response
Different DLA gene variants enable the immune system to recognize different components of pathogens.
High diversity in these genes can contribute to the immune system’s ability to recognize and respond to a broader range of pathogens.
2. ❤️ Importance for Immune Health
Scientific studies have shown that certain DLA gene variants may be associated with autoimmune diseases, such as Addison’s disease.
High genetic diversity is generally desirable because it reflects a broader genetic foundation within the immune system.
However, high DLA diversity does not guarantee protection against autoimmune or other immune-related diseases.
3. 🐺 Valuable for Dog Breeding
Genetic diversity is an important aspect of responsible and sustainable dog breeding.
Maintaining a broad genetic foundation helps preserve genetic diversity within a breeding population over the long term.
Amarok’s high DLA diversity is therefore an encouraging part of his genetic profile and provides valuable information when selecting suitable breeding partners.
Summary
With a genetic Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) of just 1% and high genetic diversity in both tested MHC Class II regions, Amarok demonstrates encouraging results regarding his genetic diversity.
While the COI provides insight into the degree of genetic relatedness among his ancestors, the DLA results reveal the diversity of specific genes that play an important role in the immune system.
Together, these results complement each other and provide valuable information for our breeding program at Nordic Companion Dog of Goldenstone. 🐺❤️
